LANTERNS

A play on light and shadow.

Arkady's lanterns and luminaries are created with the use of translucent porcelain and underglazes. Each piece is carved and formed to be seen from all sides. She works with the natural luminescence of the clay to create a dramatic contrast when light shines through the clay to reveal the images from the inside and adding emphasis to the scenes on the outside.

Each piece is meticulously researched, carved, formed, and painted with an attention for detail revealing the artist's passion and pure delight in the creative process. No single lantern or luminary is the same even when inspired by the same source.
